Dr. Hiroshi Furukawa is a visionary leader with a proven track record of bringing cutting-edge wireless technology from the lab to the marketplace. As a leading expert in the field, he has consistently driven innovation in wireless communication systems for over two decades.
His career began with a bang at NEC Central Research Laboratories (1996–2003), where he invented Site Selection Transmit Diversity (SSDT). This breakthrough technology was adopted as a global standard for 3G mobile communications in 2000, enabling more robust and reliable cellular connections worldwide.
While serving as a professor at Kyushu University (2003–2018), Dr. Furukawa shifted his focus to solving the critical challenge of wireless backhaul for small cells. His expertise led him to found PicoCELA Inc. in 2008, a company dedicated to commercializing his patented wireless technologies. He also led the MIMO-MESH Project (2007-2016), a major government-backed initiative to advance wireless mesh networking.
A recognized entrepreneur and industry leader, Dr. Furukawa was named the Kyushu Regional Representative for the 2016 EY Entrepreneur of the Year. His work is backed by a robust portfolio of over 60 patents and more than 100 research papers, solidifying his reputation as a true pioneer.
Dr. Furukawa’s expertise is further shared through his co-authored books, including “Latest Trends in Wi-Fi Network Technologies Toward Gigabit 2013–2014” (Impress Business Media), which provides valuable insights into the future of Wi-Fi technology.
