Karl is CEO and co-founder of Join, one of the leaders in Enterprise Network as a Service.
Karl began his career as a compiler and UNIX software engineer at H-P, but moved from the compute world to networking when he co-founded Provectus, one of the early branch routing vendors connecting Novell, Banyan and other branch networks to the public internet. He joined Silicon Graphics after Provectus’ acquisition and led the team building the first interactive television platform along with AT&T and TimeWarner. After Silicon Graphics, Karl took over leadership of LANCity, the company to first commercialize the broadband cable modem as it was being acquired by Bay Networks, where he served as VP and General Manager of the Broadband Technology Division.
Karl later founded Vello Systems, the SDN pioneer whose solution was adopted by NTT, Telstra, BT, and other major telcos and was later acquired by Sonus Networks. He also founded
MediaFriends (Salesforce Messenger) which was acquired by Salesforce.
From the early days of his career, Karl has been involved in the creation of standards: ISO MPEG, MCNS/DOCSIS, MPLS, and 802.11.
