Masterclass – Overview

Duration: 2x 3.5 hour

Wi-Fi 6 is currently the hottest Wi-Fi technology with new advances which can impact the performance of home/office and service provider networks.  The release of 6 GHz band for unlicensed usage is the biggest usage and has ushered in Wi-Fi 6E certification which can effectively bring many Wi-Fi 6 and other features into practice due to the greenfield nature of the spectrum.  Moreover, implications of Wi-Fi 6E on backhaul, security practices are going to have a long-lasting impact in the field.  Together Wi-Fi 6/6E are going to dominate deployments in the near future.
For the future, Wi-Fi 7 is already upon us with announcements by chipset makers leading the way.  Understanding what is upcoming and potentially planning for that will be crucial for ISPs and other entities working in the Wi-Fi area.  A sneak preview into initial discussions on upcoming IEEE 802.11bx standards (Wi-Fi 8) will also provide a long-term perspective.

NEW – Wi-Fi 8

IEEE 802.11bx has started discussing proposals on technologies to be included as a part of Wi-Fi evolution which will lead Wi-Fi into the 2030s..Some of the things being proposed include more focus on latency enhancing mechanisms, possible inclusion of 60 GHz in the multi-link operations, more detailed specifications on multi-AP coordination.  Throughput, latency, along with a few other metrics is expected to drive Wi-FI to the next decade.
