Israel-based smart home networking vendor Heights Telecom has begun deployment of the world’s first fully compliant EasyMesh gateway & Wi-Fi extender, the company says. The client is leading Israeli telco Bezeq. The extender can operate as a controller, a slave, an access point, or a repeater, says Height Telecom.
The Wi-Fi Alliance’s EasyMesh standard is beginning to see broader adoption across the vendor landscape (see our CES roundup here) and now Israel-based home networking vendor Heights Telecom says it has begun deployment of the world’s first fully compliant EasyMesh solution.
Heights Telecom’s service provider client is leading Israeli telco Bezeq, and Heights Telecom is providing both the ‘Be Mesh’ WLAN extender device as well as the home gateway unit, the company says. Bezeq is Israel’s largest telecommunications service provider operating – according to their latest corporate filings – a total of 1.63 million broadband Internet lines.

The EasyMesh standard introduces multi-vendor compatibility between Wi-Fi mesh units and home gateways so that consumers can mix and match home Wi-Fi equipment as they want. Even more importantly, EasyMesh brings a long list of technical benefits to home Wi-Fi including optimized performance, better in-home Wi-Fi coverage, easy setup, and more, says the Wi-Fi Alliance.
Heights Telecom’s new Be Mesh extender unit packs all of these features and can either be plugged directly into a wall socket or used with a stand to allow placement anywhere, Height Telecom says. The home Wi-Fi services run on a single SSID and Wi-Fi clients are directed to the Wi-Fi band offering the best performance through intelligent steering algorithms, the company says.
“This was a huge challenge for Heights Telecom, but at the same time, it inspired our vision to be a leading innovative company especially when you are the world’s first to fully implement EasyMesh. EasyMesh is a great addition to the services already available on our containerised SW platform. The ERO1 Mesh extender can be used in combination with Heights Telecom Gateways or as standalone device supporting legacy gateways,” says Heights Telecom CEO, Gadi Malka.
The Be Mesh unit and associated BE router – both provided by Heights Telecom – are controlled by an app that also features installation by QR code, parental controls, speed tests, and more.
For the time being the Be Mesh unit supports the 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) 5 GHz standard in a 4 x 4 MIMO configuration as well as 802.11n with 2 x 2 MIMO in the 2.4 GHz band. Gadi Malka says the company plans to release a fully in-house designed Wi-Fi 6 EasyMesh solution to their high-speed customers in the third quarter of this year.
