Intel understands the growing importance of AI and so yesterday the company launched its new Intel® Core™ Ultra™ processor family for PCs, part of Intel’s new ‘AI Everywhere’ initiative. This is the fifth generation of Intel platforms since 2021 to feature Wi-Fi 6E and the second to support new Wi-Fi 7 technology, which Intel is positioning as ‘5 Gig’ connectivity. The platform also supports Intel’s Killer™ and Connectivity Performance Suite AI-based optimisation software packages.
Yesterday’s launch of Intel’s new Intel Core Ultra processor platform is “the company’s largest architectural shift in 40 years,” Intel says – and the second Intel platform (after 14th Gen Intel® Core™ Platforms launched in October of 23) to support Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. Intel says the aim of the new platform is “to seamlessly integrate and effectively run AI in all applications — in the cloud and, increasingly, locally at the PC and edge, where data is generated and used.”
And to do that PC manufacturers now have the option of including into their designs either Wi-Fi 6E – delivering gigabit plus Wi-Fi speeds – or Wi-Fi 7, which Intel is now positioning as a ‘5 Gig wired-like’ and ‘extreme performance and reliability’ connectivity technology. Wi-Fi 7 will likely be a feature for the premium laptop category, says Intel’s Carlos Aguirre, Wireless Marketeer at Intel. Meanwhile Intel continues to focus on the end-to-end connectivity experience in every detail, Carlos Aguirre says.
“A great connected PC experience includes not only gigabit Wi-Fi data rates but an overall excellent user experience starting with the laptop sensing the user’s proximity with Wi-Fi and then automatically waking up. Another important user experience component is prioritising important applications – for example to deliver the right video & voice quality when using a laptop for video conferencing while downloading files at the same time. Add to this the importance of seamless multi-device experiences with the new Intel Unison software application and hair-breadth precision low-latency gaming enabled by Wi-Fi 7’s MLO feature,” Carlos Aguirre says.
Intel’s new Core Ultra processor family – supporting Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 connectivity options – will be available as part of the new flagship ‘Intel Evo Edition’ and Intel vPro® brands, which were also highlighted yesterday at Intel’s launch event in New York. PCs with these brands will include Unison and Connectivity Performance Suite optimisation software while new Core Ultra-powered gaming and creator PCs are more likely to prefer to use Intel’s ‘Killer’ connectivity optimisation software package with enhanced customisation options, Carlos Aguirre says.
