Can the new Matter protocol deliver when it comes to smart home IoT growth and innovation? A new industry report – authored by analyst Dean Bubley of Disruptive Analysis – dives into the case for Matter, its use cases, architecture, sweeping benefits, and evolving ecosystem. The report is a cooperative effort lead by Silicon Labs and Wi-Fi NOW. The report is supported by Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) and Wi-Fi Alliance.
The Matter standard for IoT interoperability and onboarding will be one year old in November and already more than 700 smart home IoT devices have been certified. Matter is widely expected to deliver a major boost to the smart home IoT market by removing legacy pain points for consumers, businesses, and suppliers across a diverse ecosystem. A new report – written by analyst Dean Bubley and commissioned by leading IoT chipset vendor Silicon Labs – dives into case for Matter.
The report looks at key drivers, growth forecasts, device categories, IoT services, and – most importantly – a wide array of benefits for consumers, business, as well as for the broad smart home IoT ecosystem. It also takes an in-depth look at Matter design principles and architecture including the critical role of Wi-Fi as the default connectivity standard within the home, onboarding with BLE, security, support for legacy systems, as well as certification and testing.
Chris LaPre, Head of Technology, Connectivity Standards Alliance.
“One of the most exciting things about Matter is that we’ve created — I believe — an unprecedented and universal foundation for IoT service innovation. One can imagine all kinds of intelligent services — home automation, personalisation, the extensive use of AI and cloud — delivered by service providers of all kinds for the home and the enter- prise. It is truly exciting to be part of such a potentially massive transformation and opportunity.”- Chris LaPre, Head of Technology, Connectivity Standards Alliance.
