White Paper: Tiny Wi-Fi antennas to revolutionise device design & manufacturing, says Ignion

June 25, 2021 | NEW WHITE PAPER | by Claus Hetting, Wi-Fi NOW CEO & Chairman

Ignion’s new Virtual Antenna™ technology is millimetres wide and multi-band capable. For more download the White Paper by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

By Claus Hetting, Wi-Fi NOW CEO & Chairman

Tiny off-the-shelf chip antennas are set to revolutionise the way Wi-Fi devices are designed and manufactured, says the Spain-based Wi-Fi antenna experts from Ignion. The new ‘Virtual Antenna’ components add design flexibility and shorten time-to-market for new, smaller form-factor Wi-Fi devices without sacrificing on performance. The new antennas are ideal for multi-band, massive MIMO, and other applications, Ignion says.

The number of Wi-Fi devices in the world is set to continue to rise dramatically while the sizes of Wi-Fi devices keep getting smaller – be they for personal use, for networking, or for IoT. Now there is finally an antenna technology capable of matching and even boosting that trend: Ignion has invented a set of tiny off-the-shelf, PCB-mount Wi-Fi antennas to support a new generation of super compact, high-performance, multi-band Wi-Fi devices.

Instead of customising antennas for each device design – a costly and inflexible process – Ignion’s ‘Virtual Antenna™’ technology allows standard antenna components to be used. Using this approach, a circuit to match the antenna can be designed in hours, Ignion says. The antennas themselves are no more than a few millimeters in height, width, and breadth.
