First outdoor AP released by eero
Wi-Fi mesh pioneers eero last week released their first outdoor Wi-Fi access point in the form of the eero Outdoor 7: A device designed to connect (via mesh) to the rest of your eero network and deliver up to 15,000 square feet (about 1400 square metres) of outdoor Wi-Fi coverage for your yard, porch, or wherever else. The device is IP66 rated and comes with mounting options for pretty much any kind of outside wall. The unit can be powered from PoE or from an 30 Watt outdoor power adapter to plug into any outdoor AC outlet, eero says in this press release.
Interestingly, the eero Outdoor 7 also works as a point-to-point link, which opens up for creative opportunities to extend coverage across a large property – or maybe even share your connection with others. The unit will retail for US$349.95 in the US starting mid November and supports up to 2.1 Gbps of Wi-Fi 7 connectivity speed (but does not support the 6 GHz band).
Wi-Fi HaLow leader Morse Micro launches GitHub repository & community
Wi-Fi HaLow – the Wi-Fi standard designed for long-range Wi-Fi IoT – is coming of age quickly, and now Wi-Fi HaLow chipset leader Morse Micro is making open source code available for developers. The new GitHub repositories contain the software and tools necessary to bring up Wi-Fi HaLow on Linux-based projects, Morse Micro says.
“This initiative offers a robust collection of assets, tools, and resources, designed to support and empower the global developer community. Both the repositories and forum are available for free, catering to engineers, developers, and tech enthusiasts interested in advancing Wi-Fi HaLow technology,” Morse Micro says. The repository is available here. Morse Micro’s Community Forum can be found here.
