Is it possible to build wide-area, high-performance Wi-Fi networks for expansive outdoor applications including for heavy industry? Answer: It is not only possible – it is being done right now by Krysp Wireless with Altai Technologies extended-range Super WiFi technology. Krysp – Altai Technologies’ master distributor for the US and Canada – and Wi-Fi NOW are teaming up to shift industry paradigms regarding bi-directional Wi-Fi connectivity range and long-held engineering models dictating the number of access points required to cover wide areas.
Wi-Fi experts will tell you that deploying Wi-Fi networks with a range of up to a mile from a single AP simply cannot be done due to the uplink limitations of low-powered Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Here’s an ancient Chinese proverb: The people who say it can’t be done shouldn’t interrupt the people actually doing it.
Case in point: Krysp Wireless, operating out of Toronto and Kansas City, and its manufacturing partner – Hong Kong-based Altai Technologies – can point to thousands of expansive and heavy industrial deployments around the world including challenging RF environments such as container ports, industrial plants, farming operations, mining, underground complexes, marinas, and more.
Now Krysp, Altai, and Wi-Fi NOW are teaming up to advocate for an important use case: Wide-area outdoor (and indoor) Wi-Fi connectivity for heavy industrial and other wide area coverage applications. With deployments spanning more than 100 countries, Altai has demonstrated that Super WiFi’s patented smart antennas, throughput optimization, and advanced interference mitigation can deliver up to a mile of bi-directional connectivity from a single AP, says Beau Peters, President & CRO of Krysp Wireless.
“This incredible range as well as the need for far fewer APs translates into faster deployments, simplified network management, and a much lower costs compared to traditional Wi-Fi. The long range and favourable cost structure also makes Super WiFi an attractive and much simpler alternative to private cellular networks. These are the key messages we will be working to deliver through our partnership with Wi-Fi NOW,” Beau Peters says.
Over the course of the next twelve months Wi-Fi NOW will be zooming in on Super WiFi use cases and capabilities exemplified by the pioneering work of Krysp Wireless. “Building wide-area Wi-Fi networks has traditionally been difficult and has rarely been done successfully. Now Krysp Wireless and Altai are challenging everything we thought we knew about the limitations of Wi-Fi. We’re excited and delighted to be working with what we believe are the two undisputed leaders in wide-area industrial and outdoor Wi-Fi,” says Claus Hetting, CEO & Chairman of Wi-Fi NOW.
