Houston: Teenage girls try to stab mother to death for turning off Wi-Fi
Yes, Wi-Fi is important. But this is – to say the least – taking it little too far and probably also the grizzliest Wi-Fi news item we’ve ever come across: According to this ABC news report, three teenage girls allegedly hatched a plan to bump-off their mom for turning off the WiFi, finally chasing her into the street armed with kitchen knives. Thankfully the mother was not seriously hurt, authorities say. The grandmother was knocked over while valiantly trying to protect the mother. The teenagers were detained and charged.

Nokia launches another Wi-Fi 7-capable FWA gateway

Last week Nokia launched another Wi-Fi 7-capable 5G FWA gateway called ‘FastMile Gateway 4’ capable of Wi-Fi speeds of more than 4 Gbps, the company said in a press release here. Nokia says the new gateway features high-gain antennas (up to 8 dBi), and dual-band Wi-Fi 7 “in a compact design that can be self-installed by the consumer in the home.” The Nokia family of 5G FWA gateways now includes four models of which three are Wi-Fi 7 capable but only one (5G Gateway 12) is tri-band (see them all here).
Comcast unveils new Wi-Fi 6E gateway designed for apartments

Earlier this month Comcast announced the release of a new gateway Wi-Fi 6E-capable product designed specifically to make access to high-quality Wi-Fi faster and easier for apartment residents. “The Multifamily Xfinity Broadband Gateway offers property owners an easy way to provide tenants ‘Instant On’ WiFi access without waiting for equipment, scheduling a service appointment, or speaking to an agent. Residents simply download the Xfinity app and connect,” Comcast says in a press release here.
The new gateway is part of the ‘Xfinity Communities Connected Buildings’ solution, which among long list of useful features delivers building-wide Wi-Fi including connectivity for IoT and other building management systems. It also comes with support for Xfinity Mobile’s ‘WiFi Powerboost’ delivering gigabit speeds to Xfinity Mobile subscribers – over Wi-Fi, of course. Comcast’s connectivity solutions for apartments compete directly with – for example – those of mesh pioneer eero, Ruckus Networks, Cambium Networks, and others, the difference of course being that Comcast is also the CSP in this case.
