ISPs now providing majority of home Wi-Fi routers in the US, says Parks Associates
A report released this week by the analysts at Parks Associates reveals that 71% of consumers use Wi-Fi routers and gateways provided by their ISPs (in most other markets home gateways are nearly always provided by ISPs but the US has traditionally always been different in this respect). The finding is a result of a survey of 8,000 US Internet households.
Parks Associates says this is a new trend coinciding with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 routers, where previously more consumers reported owning their own equipment. From a technical point of view: Managing and optimising home Wi-Fi networks by ISPs – to ensure QoE – can in practice only be done with ISP-provided gateways, which means the new finding is good news for home Wi-Fi QoE.
