Roundup: News from Comcast, Aprecomm, Browan, Morse Micro plus a new Wi-Fi-friendly spectrum needs report

Comcast says it is deploying ‘AI-powered network amplifiers’

Last week Comcast said that it is rolling out ‘AI-powered network amplifiers’ across all its markets – but didn’t offer a lot of detail as to what exactly this means. The new infrastructure deployment is taking place just feet away from homes and businesses, the company says. “They are capable of self-monitoring, self-healing, and self-maintenance, transforming the edge of the network into a hub of actionable intelligence that is being used today to deliver a better broadband experience,” Comcast says in a press release here.

Comcast’s AI agents can now be trained to identify fiber cuts and reroute traffic automatically to keep customers connected while issues are resolved. Meanwhile other agents take actions to mitigate security threats or optimise power usage based on spikes and lulls in data consumption. AI agents for such use cases are in trials and will get smarter in the future, Comcast says.

Aprecomm teams up with VECTOR for optimised managed services

Leading AI-based Wi-Fi QoE solution provider Aprecomm has entered into a strategic partnership with Poland-based VECTOR for inclusion of Aprecomm’s CX Management suite into VECTOR’s managed services offering. This means VECTOR will be offering the full range of Aprecomm solutions – including remote Wi-Fi optimisation – to broadband providers and their subscribers across Europe.

VECTOR says the agreement will empower its service provider clients to “enhance user experience and boost support efficiency through the latest AI technology.” Aprecomm says its solution “adopts a self-healing approach to managed WiFi, adjusting the network to accommodate the unique needs of each user and the performance of every application.” Read more about the newly announced deal here.

Browan Communications partners with Morse Micro for Wi-Fi HaLow

Morse Micro says it is entered into a technology partnership with Wi-Fi and networking solutions provider Browan Communications of Taiwan. Browan says it is developing Wi-Fi HaLow capable access points incorporating Morse Micro’s latest MM8108 Wi-Fi HaLow SoC. Browan says it intends to accelerate the adoption of Wi-Fi HaLow technology through the new agreement.

New study compares 6G to Wi-Fi and urges re-evaluation of spectrum needs

A new policy paper comparing future 6G to Wi-Fi has been published in Telecommunications Policy Journal highlighting the need for regulators to understand better where and how the demand for broadband data takes place –  given that the demand for data is slowing in the peak smartphone era, the paper says. “New datasets are needed reflecting real usage by different wireless broadband technologies, for indoor and outdoor users. Secondly, with data consumption growth slowing, there needs to be an urgent reassessment of spectrum demand versus allocation,” the paper says. The report is authored by among others analyst Dean Bubley of Disruptive Analysis.
