‘Wi-Fi offloading’ has been around for more than a decade – and is now more than ever poised for mass market adoption. The drivers are many and the technology is both mature and highly effective. These are a few of the main messages in Enea’s excellent new white paper: “Wi-Fi Offloading – Why?” – download it here.
‘Wi-Fi offloading’ is the generic name for seamlessly and securely connecting phones to Wi-Fi networks based on SIM credentials, hence using widely available Wi-Fi services to extend and enhance cellular coverage and capacity. Although the misleading name ‘offloading’ may have been relevant a decade ago – and we’ve in many ways been stuck with it since – the reason for this type of convergence no longer has anything to do with moving data away from cellular networks.
Today, Wi-Fi offloading – says Enea – has everything to do with delivering effective indoor coverage where 5G often struggles because of high DAS or small cell costs, high cellular frequencies that don’t penetrate walls well, even the emergence of new building regulations that keep cellular signals out. Enea’s new white paper presents compelling arguments for why the time for ‘Wi-Fi offloading’ is now and even busts a few die-hard myths about Wi-Fi. The paper is highly recommended.
“Wi-Fi Offloading – Why?” is authored by Enea’s Senior Director of Marketing, Johan Terve. Johan and the team at Enea have close to 20 years of experience in delivering Wi-Fi offloading service management platforms to operators all over the world.
Enea is present in over 80 markets and more than 4.5 billion people rely on Enea technology every day when they connect to mobile networks or use the Internet. Also don’t miss Johan Terve speaking at our industry update webinar on convergence solutions July 23.
