The new Wi-Fi 8 standard is awash with plenty of great features – and getting a handle on them and what each of them mean for Wi-Fi reliability will require copious amounts time and effort. But here’s the fast track to understanding perhaps one of the most valuable: Dynamic Sub-band Operation, or DSO. At Mobile World Congress last week, MediaTek had the feature on display. For the details, watch the video below.
Wi-Fi 8’s DSO feature improves connectivity reliability, spectral efficiency, performance, and network capacity and it is fairly simply to understand: The feature can for example split a 320 MHz channel into two concurrent 160 MHz channels so that two client devices can be served concurrently (at 160 MHz each) instead of sequentially with a single 320 MHz channel. This reduces latency because each device will no longer need to ‘wait’ until the full 320 MHz channel is available. Watch the video below recorded at MediaTek’s pavilion at MWC last week in Barcelona.
