New Samsung foldable phones powered by Qualcomm’s FastConnect Wi-Fi 6 and 6E platforms

Samsung released two new foldable phone models last week and both are powered by Qualcomm platforms, Qualcomm said in a press release here. The new Galaxy Z Fold3 flagship product is powered by the Snapdragon 888 incorporating the FastConnect 6900 Wi-Fi 6E platform, while the other new Samsung phone – called Galaxy Z Flip3 – uses Snapdragon 888 and FastConnect 6800 to deliver Wi-Fi 6. Both new phones run on the Android operating system provided by Google.

New White Paper: “6 GHz: Why the full 1200 MHz and why now?”

Above: The latest smart home insights from Plume IQ

A large part of the world has already allocated the full 6 GHz band – meaning the full 1200 MHz of spectrum – to Wi-Fi while other parts of the world (most notably Europe) are unfortunately still lagging far behind in total allocated unlicensed spectrum. A new paper by the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance dives into the many reasons why opening up the full 6 GHz band is indeed the best public policy choice for regulators everywhere.

The paper posits that if only 500 MHz is allocated, this “will be unable to support advanced use cases or support even routine consumer and enterprise networking needs in a few short years,” Dynamic Spectrum Alliance says in the paper. The paper then presents long list of specific and compelling arguments why full band 6 GHz Wi-Fi is needed now – download it here. Very much worth reading and referencing in particular if you work for a regulatory agency or simply for a deeper understanding of the regulatory landscape and not least the global socio-economic impact of Wi-Fi.

Fitness bikes the latest connected device rage in the US

Plume – now serving a full billion devices via their smart home platform – continues to release intelligence reports from the world of home broadband via their intelligence service dubbed Plume IQ. Plume IQ says the latest connected device rage in the US appears to be fitness bikes, a category that grew by a remarkable 132% during the past year and a half.

In Europe, apparently smart light bulbs is what consumers want, growing by 233% in the same period, while in Japan, wearables and smart watches grew by 127%. The Plume IQ data is collected from 30 million locations currently managed by the Plume Cloud, the company says. To sign up for the Plume IQ monthly smart home intelligence service, click here.
