Roundup: Wi-Fi growth returns, Morse Micro & Gateworks, Cisco’s DC stadium deal, NETGEAR’s security acquisition

Dell’Oro says enterprise Wi-Fi market is growing again

According to Dell’Oro’s latest Wireless LAN Quarterly report, the enterprise WLAN (Wi-Fi) market is back to double-digit growth year-on-year for first quarter 2025. Dell’Oro cites 11% growth for the period, which is the first where all major vendors have been selling Wi-Fi 7-based equipment, Dell’Oro says. Interestingly, CommScope (RUCKUS), Ubiquiti, and Extreme grew faster than other vendors while the selling price of Wi-Fi 7 APs remained lower than comparable Wi-Fi 6E units. The Department of Justice’s law suit against HPE’s Juniper acquisition begins July 9th, Dell’Oro says.

Morse Micro’s Wi-Fi HaLow to connect Gateworks’ single-board industrial computers

Morse Micro continues to expand its Wi-Fi HaLow partnership footprint and this time, it is all about industrial IoT: Gateworks – a US-based leader in industrial single-board computers – will be incorporating Morse Micro’s HaLow SoCs into its GW16159 Wi-Fi HaLow M.2 card, designed for smart factories, smart transportation, and smart energy, Morse Micro says. Gateworks has also released a new Wi-Fi HaLow development kit. Both Morse Micro and Gateworks spoke at the world’s first Wi-Fi HaLow Global Summit in Mountain View on April 28 – watch all the presentations here.

Cisco to connect downtown Washington DC’s new arena

Above: Work on DC’s new downtown arena started in December of last year. Cisco will deliver the Wi-Fi network connecting fans and staff.

Cisco has entered into an extensive partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) to power the Monumental’s new downtown DC arena. The new arena is to feature first-of-its-kind Cisco Command Center, a state-of-the-art hub to power fan experiences, venue operations, and team performance, Cisco says. The venue is still to be completed but will eventually host NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, and WNBA’s Washington Mystics. Cisco says the arena will  be one of the first sports venues in the world to deploy Cisco Wi-Fi 7 and will use Cisco Spaces for “real-time information and visualisations to help analyze traffic flows and track the location of people and devices.”

NETGEAR acquires network security experts Exium

NETGEAR this week took another significant step towards revamping its B2B business: Bangalore-based Exium will now become part of the NETGEAR organisation, the company announced yesterday. The Exium platform has been specifically designed to simplify security for MSPs, which is a perfect match for NETGEAR Business’ ambition of becoming the best one-stop-shop for SME and MSP networking. According to NETGEAR “this solution will offer the first, completely integrated, network and security solution, purpose built for MSPs and SMEs.” For more about NETGEAR’s transformation, read here.
