Solutions for home Wi-Fi QoE are often part of a wider software solution for ISP operations that include a variety of functions and features (and sometimes hardware, too). The vendor stated below offer (in some cases) stand-alone QoE systems while also providing a variety of other ISP operational features. Our list is not exhaustive. If you are new to home broadband QoE we recommend you read our technology guide first. Find our news coverage of NetDuma here.

Netduma develops traffic management software designed to optimise the user experience on home broadband networks with a particular focus on reducing latency and improving application performance. Unlike Cloud-native QoE platforms that optimise the entire home Wi-Fi environment, Netduma focuses on gateway-based traffic intelligence, using advanced Quality of Service (QoS), application prioritisation, and bufferbloat reduction to deliver smoother gaming, video conferencing, streaming, and other latency-sensitive applications. NetDuma is integrated into gateways and consumer routers by ISPs and networking equipment manufacturers.

Key capabilities

  • Dynamic Quality of Service (QoS)
  • Intelligent traffic prioritisation
  • Bufferbloat reduction
  • Application-aware traffic management
  • Device prioritisation
  • Gaming latency optimisation
  • Real-time network monitoring
  • User-configurable network controls

Typical customers

  • Broadband service providers
  • Router and gateway manufacturers
  • Gaming router vendors
  • Managed broadband providers

Strengths

  • Industry-leading expertise in latency reduction and bufferbloat mitigation
  • Strong reputation in gaming and real-time application optimisation
  • Application-aware traffic management improves perceived Quality of Experience
  • Gateway-based solution requiring no cloud infrastructure
  • Flexible integration into broadband gateways and consumer routers
  • Well-established software platform with proven commercial deployments

Best suited for

Broadband operators and router manufacturers looking to enhance the performance of latency-sensitive applications such as online gaming, video conferencing, voice, and cloud services through intelligent gateway-based traffic management. Netduma is particularly well suited where improving user experience under network congestion is a higher priority than delivering a comprehensive cloud-managed subscriber experience platform.

WiFi NOW’s Perspective: NetDuma is unique on the market offering CPE-only (non-Cloud) connectivity performance optimisation solution. A critical component of Netduma’s solution is application awareness using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). The system allocates the right amount of bandwidth to each application to ensure the right QoE while Netduma’s Adaptive Congestion Control (ACC) layer eliminates queuing caused by bufferbloat. Because of its unique characteristics, Netduma’s solution is in some cases deployed together with other QoE solutions. Read our coverage of NetDuma here.
