And that number does not include integrated Wi-Fi technology shipped as part of MediaTek’s growing smartphone platform business. TVs powered by MediaTek include Samsung’s world’s first Wi-Fi 6E TV while consumer-grade Wi-Fi powered by MediaTek includes (some of) TP-Link, NETGEAR, and Linksys routers, said James Chen, Associate VP of Product Marketing at MediaTek during the event.
“Going forward MediaTek will also be focusing more on supplying Wi-Fi chipsets to power operator CPEs, home gateways, and mesh units. Home Wi-Fi delivered by operators is becoming an increasingly important segment, so we’re redoubling our efforts as we move forward,” said James Chen. According to the company’s latest map of operator references, MediaTek Wi-Fi is already powering the home gateways and CPEs of around 40 operators around the world.
James Chen also pointed out that MediaTek has been selected as one of the Wi-Fi Alliance’s interoperability testbed partners for WPA3, Wi-Fi 6E (including the Wi-Fi 6/6E Release 2 version slated for later this year) and the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Wi-Fi Certified EasyMesh™ program.
