War: Google, Intel, Cisco, HPE, and others now ‘legitimate targets’, Iran says
This update was written before the current cease fire. We are of course hopeful that peace will once again prevail in the Middle East and indeed everywhere.
As of this CNBC news report from April 1 (we’re assuming it’s not April Fools) the Iranian Republican Guard now considers 18 named US tech companies as ‘legitimate targets’ for retaliatory attacks. The list includes Apple, Google, NVIDIA as well as many leading networking companies including Cisco and HPE. “Tech assets are treated as part of the conflict, not peripheral too it,” says James Henderson, CEO of risk management firm Healix to CNBC.
We’re assuming this means the named US companies’ presence (including data centres, offices, etc.) in the region – but who knows what it eventually could end up meaning. As we know, the first casualty in war is the truth. AWS data centres were struck last month in Dubai UAE, the site of our EMEA Wi-Fi World Congress 2025. We’re grateful that it was possible to conduct our event without mishap.
Amazon launches eero Outdoor 7 mesh AP for European markets & more
After having released the eero outdoor 7 for the US in October of 2024 (we wrote about it here) the product is now finally coming to European markets. As of last week, eero Outdoor 7 is also available in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands for €469.99, Australia for AU$729.99, and Canada for CA$549.99, Amazon says. The eero is no doubt an excellent product – although the price point is likely to put it out of reach for mainstream European users.
Plume goest to Vietnam with FTP Telecom
Home Wi-Fi mesh pioneer (and today end-to-end home broadband services platform provider) Plume has announced that Vietnam’s FTP Telcom will be deploying Plume’s Wi-Fi optimisation platform across Vietnam. “FPT’s network leverages the Plume Platform’s advanced Wi-Fi optimization and AI-informed application recognition and prioritisation technologies to create a more consistent, reliable home network that adapts to the way each household uses the Internet,” Plume says in a press release here.
We take Plume’s entry into the Vietnamese market as indicative of a more agressive global go-to-market strategy for the home Wi-Fi optimisation provider, who until recently has had only a limited footprint in Asia serving only Reliance Jio in India and J:Com in Japan.
